...Recycle your bras and help raise money for Breast Cancer Charities in the UK

Bliss Lingerie's bra recycling scheme is helping reduce landfill, reduce waste and provide much needed bras for women in developing countries - And for every bra that is recycled, Bliss are donating the money to breast cancer charities in the UK.

Breast Cancer affects more than 46,000 women a year and a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every 11 minutes. Visit www.breastcancercare.org.uk for the facts about breast cancer.

Increasing awareness of breast cancer and raising much needed funds helps to fight this traumatic disease and you can help by recycling your bras with Bliss.

New - Bliss launches Bra Scrappage Allowance Scheme...

Following the Governments recent incentive to reduce pollution with it's car scrappage allowance in the motor trade, Bliss Lingerie of Hyde has introduced an 'old bra for new bra' scrappage scheme.

The idea is to encourage women to recycle their bras when they buy a new one.

So that old tatty or broken bra sat in your underwear drawer is suddenly worth a discount for you and under Bliss Lingerie's bra recycling scheme - money for Breast Cancer charities.

The bra scrappage scheme will be on offer in July and August to highlight to women that their old bras can be recycled. Any woman that brings in her old bras for recycling to Bliss Lingerie in Hyde will automatically receive a 10% discount if they buy a new bra.

Bliss Lingerie's bra recycling scheme has been in place since April and has proven incredibly successful.

'We've even had bras posted from Edinburgh' says Amanda Goodall, Managing Director of Bliss Lingerie.

The bra recycling scheme is ongoing and there are numerous bra banks already located across Tameside - see below to find a bra bank near you

Working with BCR Global Textiles

Bliss Lingerie has been working with BCR Global Textiles who collect the old bras from the bra banks. The bras are then hand sorted into different grades of textiles in BCR's extensive warehouse sorting facility which uses predetermined categories to ensure that the best use is made of all textiles when recycled or distributed worldwide.

For every kilo of bras collected and sorted by BCR, Bliss Lingerie will receive £1. This is then donated to Breast Cancer Charities in the UK.

So ladies, give Bliss your support, reduce landfill and help raise much needed funds for Breast Cancer - Recycle you bras at Bliss.

We will accept all bras that you no longer need – even if they are damaged, any style, colour or condition – although we do request that bras are clean.

To help with this vitally important cause – put your unwanted bras in an envelope and mail them to:

Bliss Bra Banks – Ladies, give us your support.

Bliss Lingerie of Hyde has launched a new and innovative approach to the disposal of old and unwanted bras.
Bliss Lingerie’s Bra Recycling Scheme ensures the re-use and recycling of bras. The scheme will raise funds for breast cancer charities in the UK & help women in developing & third world countries where there is a short supply of affordable bras.

Presently in the U.K the majority of bras when they are discarded are placed straight into landfill, so by placing unwanted bras into a “Bra Bank” material is being taken directly from the waste stream. This helps towards the Governments targets for reducing the impact of Climate Change.

The scheme is being run with BCR Global Textiles, who are now considered the UK’s premier textile reuse & recycle specialists. The bras are collected and sorted by BCR. Bras that are reusable are shipped to developing countries and those that can’t be reused are broken down and recycled.

According to Bliss Lingerie, their research suggests that every woman in Tameside will have at least one bra in their underwear drawer that they no longer wear due to a mistake purchase or a change in bra size.

This effective and fun way to dispose of unwanted bras is helping so many good causes, and we are hoping that thousands of women across the borough will support the recycling scheme by donating unwanted or old bras. We estimate that for every 17 bras we collect, we will raise £1 for local and national breast care charities.

Bras can be any colour, condition or style. You can drop your unwanted bras into Bliss Lingerie, on Clarendon Street in Hyde, or by post. You can also help the scheme further by holding your own bra recycling event – Bliss Lingerie can supply you with a free recycling bank. For those that would like to help further with the scheme, Bliss Lingerie are offering bra banks for your workplace, school or gym that can be used to collect these much needed bras.

If you would like a Bliss Bra Bank or for further information on the bra recycling scheme you can contact Bliss Lingerie direct on 0161 368 2400.

Cllr Ruth Welsh is also urging women to get involved in the scheme “Breast cancer is now the most common cancer in the UK with around 125 women a day being diagnosed with the disease. This is an excellent way of raising money for breast cancer charities and by recycling we are also helping the environment. If we all donate any old or ill fitting bras then we can help to make a real success of this scheme”
